We are getting ready to switch to voice over ip. We met with Cisco and they had some recommendations that did not make much sense.

1 They recommended having 1.5 gigs per user on our exchange box. I spoke with some people who have used this for a while and they said 30megs per user was plenty. What are your thoughts?

2. They weren't very clear about how Unity worked with A.D. I got the impression that if you wanted to add users that you could only do this from a unity server to be able to setup phone and messaging? I understood them to say that you could add users from mmc console on any other computer but then you would have to setup an import to setup phone and mail messaging. Is this correct.

Any advice would be nice thanks.

Jim... I have no idea how they came up with the number of 1.5gb per user, that just seems silly to me. I know that I certainly don't have that much space allocated to each user. I think most of my users have about 100 - 200mb allocated to them. I'm not exactly sure about the AD integration. I do not have active directory running on my network. I can tell you however, that to set up a voice mail account I first create the Exchange mailbox and then use the Unity administration webpage to import that mailbox and associate it with an extension. I also have to use the CCM administration web to create the phone and set it up to direct the calls to VM if not answered / busy... so for me it is a three step process. I don't know if AD makes that easier.

Are you running Exchange 5.5 or 2000?
