Hi! I have a user who is hearing impaired and wears hearing aids. He currently has an Avaya 6408 phone and can't hear even when volume is maxed. Right now he is trying to use the speaker, but the quality is terrible. I know the mute button helps, but he's requesting an add-on speaker that he said he's seen before. Is anyone familiar with this? I can't seem to find anything.

If no one has heard of the add-on speaker, do you have any other suggestions? He can't use a headset because of the hearing aids.

We're running Communication Manager 3.0

Thanks! Karen

This may help you. Look at the bottom of the page for the amplified handsets for the 6400 series sets. I have several here and they seem to work well.

My 2 cents: Being a little hard of hearing myself and a user of a hearing aid ask the user if his aids are T coil enabled. If so I use a wired headset base (just the base). The output of the base has a connector that will go into what we call a neck loop. This neck loop will present the audio to the hearing aids via wireless technology. This also allows for volume control through both the headset base unit and the neck loop.
Below is from the Doc's

The ClearSounds amplified neckloop is one device that will work with almost everything you own! Its standard jack works with telephones and cell phones (equipped with a 2.5mm jack), or attach the adapter to use this innovative neckloop with audio devices like an iPod, a computer, a stereo, etc. It adds 30 dB of amplification above the maximum volume of the device you're using.

fits 2.5mm and 3.5mm headset jacks
external dial controls neckloop's volume
built-in microphone for telephoning use
user must have t-coil equipped hearing aid
low battery indication
requires 2 AAA batteries (not included)
1 year manufacturer's warranty

I hope this makes sense.

Ed- Thank you for the information. This sounds like a great solution because it would give him hands-free capability rather than being tied to the handset. I'm going to send him info on both of these suggestions and see which one will work best for him.

Thanks again for the feedback.
