Wondering if it's possible to listen to the audio of a video before rendering.

AFX is rubbish with audio imo, you can Ram prieview (but why in all of Adobe's wisdom?!!!) you have to render the whole timeline audio, before it attempts to render a frame, which makes prieviewing a pain, even if you trim the clip. You can also hold down Alt whilst clicking on the time arrow in your comp timeline, which will give a 1sec sound hit. Apart from that, you can always render the comp to audio only.

ok, thanks for the reply, but all i want is to be able to listen to audio while editing...i can see the audio levels but can't hear a thing.

Tbh, I tend to edit blocks of animation (with tails) in a video editor to the music. Afx is useless with real time audio. If I need to be clever with transition or lining up, I'll re-import the projectt back into Afx and then swap out the rendered clips with the original comps.

If you have access to an audio editor, like Sound Forge, you can put markers onto a .wav file, which will be seen in Afx, so you have visual cues for certain beats or bars, which your timeline will snap to by pressing shift and moving.
