It's been quite a while since I've messed with Norstars, and I have someone wanting help with their setup. I have a few things I'd like some advice on. Here's the situation:

They have a MICS 0x32 ver 7.1 with PRI. There are currently 2 main DIDs that ring in on different ring groups based on schedule. They didn't have a voicemail system so the incoming calls would just ring perpetually until answered. This weekend I helped them add a CallPilot because they wanted voicemail. We got that installed and the first voicemail box we set up was on a phone attached to the active ring group. Next thing we know that voicemail box is answering incoming calls after 4 rings. Obviously we didn't want that so I turned forward to voicemail back off on that extension so this setup could be rethought. Obviously some things are going to need to be changed up for this to work. Here is what we came up with:

The thought is that we want the main numbers ringing in to the receptionist, then going to an auto attendant if not answered within 3-4 rings. When receptionist isn't there, it should just be direct to auto attendant. Would like this to be on a schedule, with the option to turn it on and off manually as well. The AA will forward to departmental hunt groups that should ultimately be answered by a voicemail if not answered within 3-4 rings. The people in these hunt groups will have their own voicemail boxes, but would like calls that are forwarded to the hunt group to go to a group mailbox. This mailbox could be on a "bat phone" for each department if necessary, as they would like a notification blink if something is in those mailboxes.

How do you recommend I set this up so the voicemail boxes do not interfere with the normal call routing and everything ends up where it needs to be?

I would recommend manual ringing service and have the receptionist the control set for the target lines in question. Push a button to turn on Auto Attendant, Push it again for ringing to the reception.

Check the 'Programming manual night services FAQ' in the FAQ section.
