I need to decommission an old Server 2000 PDC. I've already put the new box in place and transferred all the FSMO roles (I think), but I wonder if anyone knows of a step-by-step guide that would make sure I don't miss a step while in the process of removing the old machine. Any suggestions are welcome.

It's been discussed here many times. I would imagine a search here would turn up a fairly complete list of tasks.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Run replmon add server then properties and check who holds FSMO's

Just disable things like DHCP DNS services etc you'll soon find out what you forgot. Then dcpromo it out wait 2 days and remove it

dcpromo the server down - other services on the box need reviewing one by one especially DHCP/DNS/WINS etc.
