Hello everyone !! First time here !! I currently have Linux certification from Sair Linux, also have CCNA certification from Cisco. Now what i was planning to do was Unix, Sun Solaris 8 !! I don't have that much experience, but definitely have certifications. Wanted some valuable advice from all you pros. How is the market for Unix esp. with my background or in general. Is it wise to do this or else ?? Please reply, I would really appreciate help/advice/tips...thanx

Hmmm....a bit of a tough one.....

Certifications are good....but, the job market now is a bit "soft", so that tends to "take away" certification "usefulness".

It's a bit hard to "recommend" what to do SPECIFICALLY since the job market seems a bit soft right now. Employers have A LOT of possible candidates to choose from and can pretty much "dictate" the pay scale right now.

It comes down to enjoying what you do / want to do. The market will probably come back around early next year.

Keep your chin up and good luck. Hope this helps you out.

Two certs is already more than most IT professionals have.
Get some experience and decide on what field interests you the most (Telecom, Unix sysadmin, programmer, etc ...) and then become a guru in that field.
I have never seen an expert or guru sit on the bench.
A certification without experience is like a practician that just got out of school, dont trust them.

As with any profession, if you are amoung the best in your field you will never have trouble finding employment, regardless of the market and economy. As long as you dedicate a great deal of yourself to the area that you choose you will be fine. Choose something that you really enjoy and it will come naturally.
