Hello,

I have a Tripp-Lite UPS, i've been looking for a software that helps me monitor this UPS, but i cant seem to find one that sends syslogs, Tripp-Lite has its own software called PowerAlert but i cant manage to make it send email notifications, thats why im looking for a software that sends syslogs, if someone has an idea that i can use or knows of a software please tell me, ill really appreciate it.

Thank You,

Hoping that a late reply (given your post dated 9 Feb 07) is better than no reply:

We have installed about 20 Tripp-Lite UPS in various shades, including PowerVerter APS2424, Omnismart 1400, etc. until about 2 years ago, when I came to the conclusion that Tripp-Lite is not worth the money.

Practically all of the Tripp-lite UPS that were in service here have blown up in the same fashion: The end stage Mos-Fets simply exploded with sparks, smell, smoke and the person being close to the unit running pale-faced into my office. Two of the units were sent for warranty service, and when we FINALLY got the replacement after 6 months, it took just two months and the replacement unit blew up again.

It seems that there is a design failure throughout the entire line of ups where the gates of the Mos-Fets are not protected, and when one of the array of (typicaly many) MosFets decides to hit the grave, it takes all the others with it.

We have one PowerVerter APS2424 left in our shop which is still alive after 4 years, powering 4 servers. But the replacement is on stand-by because it is just a question of time until this one will hit the ditch too.

Tripp-Lite monitoring depends on a serial cable connected to a monitoring host, which does all the work, while APC's AP9617 and similar monitoring cards reside on the UPS in a stand-alone fashion independent of a host. And these cards can practically do anything in terms of notification and Syslog and e-mails and locally stored logging, which is extremely helpful in getting to terms with weird scenarios where you lose IP connection with the host.

Needless to say, we have changed brand. Tripp-lite has become a no-no here.
