Just need any quick instructions on how to install a 9 GIG SCSI secondary hard disk to an existing RS/6000. I tried to add a logical volume but there is no entry for 9 GIG drives. The most is 4.2 GIG drives. Stuck there. Thinking about using the "other SCSI drive" option for the logical volume. Also is it possible to add the 9 GIG hard drive to the rootvg volume without hurting or rebooting the system? If so how is that done. Thanks in advance for the help out there

hi
1.Attach the disk physically to rs/6000;
2.run cfgmgr command;If ur environmanet allows u can also reboot the system
instead of running cfgmgr.
3.After running cfgmgr run lspv command;there should be a hdisk available
with or without PVID.
4.If pvid not appear then use chpv command to assign pvid to hdisk otherwise
go to step5
5.use smit vg /OR mkvg command to assign a new volumegroup to newly added
hdisk OR if u want to add it to rootvg use extendvg command/Or smit extendvg
--- for command line ---> extendvg rootvg hdiskx ---
6.If u make a new vg make sure that ppsize should be otherthan 4MB.
7.Eventually you can add logical volumes or filesystems by using
smit mklv or smit fs

Note: pls see man pages to use correct flags while using commands
