The owners of my company have put a little pressure on me to find out if our authorized Nortel support techs are giving correct information..

Our current system -
1 BCM400 w/ 2 PRI T'1's
1 BCM Expansion Cabinet
System is full capacity with the 2 T1 interface cards, 3 DSM 32 cards and 1 GATM 4.

Problem is - we need about 30 new digital phones set up for new agents.

We asked our vendor to price a separate BCM400 w/ another DSM 32 card and then network them together...

This was the response:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Due to system processing resource limitations, the configuration will not allow more than (30) simultaneous conversations with the (4) 32+ Digital Station Media Modules, (128) Norstar Digital Telephones, (2) Digital Trunk Interface Modules, (1) GATM4, (48) existing Voice Mail Licenses and, (96) existing Call Center Licenses. The price for the new system equipped for (32) T7208 and (16) Voice Mail Seats & Unlimited Call Center Agent licenses.

Based on your voice call traffic patterns, as I understand them, reducing throughput to (30) simultaneous talk paths will not work for your business.

We would need to set up a separate BCM with its own dial tone & licensing for your additional capacity. This arrangement would allow calls and call-transfers between the two systems. We need to set up a conference call to determine your exact requirements in the new suite and the number of simultaneous calls that will transfer between the systems. All this information is based on the information currently available. We need to take the time to review the project one more time to make sure everything has been considered.
-----------------------------------------------------------

I need to find out quickly if this is truly the case (in reference to the 30 simultaneous talk paths) and if setting up a sole separate BCM is our only solution (other than replacing our existing BC400 setup with a PBX).

Thanks so much for any help here..

it is better to follow their advice - those who have engineered your system and did analyze the system traffic ...

ask another vendor to quote for upgrading the system.

my personal opinion ..if i'm designing a system with 120+ agents ...BCM is NOT the way to go
