We need a B&W laser printer that will print on the face of a page when stacked in the paper drawer. This printer will be for checks only and the checks come prenumbered with check number one on top and number two below, etc, etc.

...and the question is...

Can anyone suggest an inexpensive printer for this task? Maybe around $500 or so. Maybe comparable to an HP 1320n.

Thank you for any and all help!

I dont know if you already have checks, but it is common
to order them face down with check number one on top. Ask
your check supplier about this.

We were printing to a copier, but have changed the procedure. The checks were already ordered this way and we have thousands.

Your needs are simple, solutions few.
Useing a straight through paper path, eg:MP tray to rear output tray, would be the way to go if printing only 10\20 or so.
The nature of any lower tray is to flip the paper up.
mrregan's solution is really the only way to go if printing large amounts.
Someone's putting in a litle extra time on saterday!

I believe the HP 4200/4300 series print on the Face of the page. We use them for Carbonless forms 3 part and the top of the stack comes out face down and the carebonless works, I think the newer 42xx use the same basic paper path so you might check them out too

I recall one accounting package that allowed you to use checks from a source tray that were in descending order. Is that possible with your accounting software?
It was a bit of a pain to set it up in batches to be able to end the batches correctly on the last check in the stack.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

We just got an HP 1022n and it does what you want. We put our label sheets in face up and they print correctly so the cheques should be the same.

Cheers.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will look into them. Thanks.

essmessm and cmeagan656 Are you referring to the tray or the drawer? I need one that prints from the drawer that way, not the tray.

The 1022n prints from the tray AND the drawer that way. We put our letterhead in face up in the drawer and our envelopes faces up on the manual bypas tray.

The paper feeds in face up from the drawer or tray at the front of the printer and feeds out at the top, face down.

The footprint of the printer is small too.

Cheers.
