Hello everyone and thanks for looking. I have a problem with 2 hard drives that has been testing my patients. I have just built a new PC and all was fine up until about 1 hour in when about once every 10 Minuit's the hard drive would make a clicking noise and sound like it was powering down(or seizing up) this would sometimes lock up the machine and sometimes not. Then almost immediately sound like it was powering up again. So I thought I would just change the drive!!!! Then exactly the same problem with the second drive!! So I changed the cable and yet another drive and this seems to have worked. I will now try the first two drives in another build a bit late on. But could do with some advise please. Is it likely the 2 drives were both faulty?? Has anyone else had these symptoms? Is my PC possessed by the devil?? And does he look like bill gates??

One possible reason for this is a faulty power cable. try another one if you have a spare. It shoud fix your problems.

I hang my head in sham!!!! Thanks for the advice Resource1. It seems so clear now you have told me. Have you ever got so caught up in a problem you just cant seem to see the answer?? Thanks again mate.

Don't feel bad, I just spent a week trying to get some files off a scrambled hard drive. Tried every "restore" program I could download. Finaly (in desperation) tried scandisk and it came back - didn't lose a thing!
