We have a Legend w/MLX phones and a user that wants to use a head set.

I have headsets that were once connected to our Definity switch. I have a 500A1 modular base (500A1-003)and Plantronics Supra Ultra Noise Canceling Headset (3122-055)

You can find many headsets that plug into the handset jack then the handset plugs into the head set unit. They are at stores like staples or Office Max. Like plantronics. There are also ( of you have an analog port on your phone) a headset unit that is portable for about 50.00 that has a decent range with no buttons. Its a nice unit ( sorry i do not have a name on that)

Hope that helps.

Yes & no. I neglected to mention paying for something is infinitely less desirable than using existing equipment for free ...assuming it works.

I belive that both Legend and Definity have Adjunct ports. There should be a short cord. with a small plastic tip on the side so it only plugs into the special plug. So if the cord does not fit it most likely will not work. If it fits try it. I dont think there is ANY way that can damage the phone.

I have an MLX16& 10 here both had the adjunct port you mentioned, and I did find the adjunct cable as well. I'll try them on a live system tomorrow.

Thanks!

Let me know if that method does not work. I will check with a co-worker Wednesday who works with Definity to see if he knows of a way to change the way they are set up. He likes to tinker with that stuff. He may know a way to convert them.

Unfortunatly, that's not what the adjunct port is for. You will want to use the type of headset that connects between the set and the coily cord of the handset. Program a "Headset Status" and "Headset Hangup" button onto the set to operate without lifting the handset.

Well shows me how much i know ---- THANKS for your help. I think i will also try that

TouchtoneTommy,

I thought I'd be able to program that button regardless. I guess not. I inquired with one of our vendors who indicated I need an M12 base unit. P/N 3276-020, is that what you had in mind?

The Headset Status button can only be programmed centrally; you cannot program it at the extension.

Legend MLX phones are lame compared to the old ATL sets for headset use because of not having a dedicated jack for the headset. To switch between headset and handset usage, one must press the Headset Status button, and flip a switch on your headset amplifier.

its is the headset hang up that must be program from central programing, headset status from station program .
with headset status you will need to remove your handset everytime you want to use your phone
with headset hang up & headset status on (green light) you then use your switch

Jshelton/Bobsou,

The button programming on the phone itself I can handle, but I am unfamiliar with a headset hang up feature in the menus.

Can you enlighten me?

all the headset hangup does is to save you from removing & replacing your handset with every call when you use your headset

when you use a headest on a Legend you must have at at least a Plantronic M12 lt plugs into where your handset cord is now, your handset & headset into your M12 base unit, to work properly you need to program 2 buttons on your phone .
system program
centralized tel programming
ext #
touch buttom
list features
Headset
headset hang up ,enter
next button then headset status, you can make it work with just a status , but you then have to remove your handset every time, if you want to anser without touching a button you can also program headset auto answer

I still think the MLX headset arrangement is lame, if you want to switch between using headset and handset. Spouse often wanders into my office, tries to use the phone when I have it set to headset, and is frustrated. With the old ATL phones, you could pickup the handset any time, or use the headset any time by pressing the button on the headset adjunct.

As I recall, the Magix phones fix the problem by having separate headset and handset jacks.
