need a good book

Does anyone know of any good refrence or text books for telephone installation and theory. I know alarm systems and satellite tv pretty well, but I need to know more

you'll have to pick on a vendor first and then get trained on the products

almost all systems are almost 100% proprietary

i used to work on lucent(now avaya) and now nortel
the admin part is totally differnt - concepts are the same though

The Irwin Handbook of Telecommunications by James Harry Green, published by McGraw Hill is big, a bit expensive, but thorough. It's helped me a bunch of times. Also, you could check some other titles at

if your intrested in the irwin book check ebay out. I hadnt seen the book before edmhtel mentioned it so I went to ebay last night forund one with a buy it now 5.95 S&H 3.95

on the command line - i'd prefer the avaya's forms interface to the ld of nortel
but its just a matter of practice
