I'm new to Cobol and purchased an Acucobol compiler which I found to be version 1.97. When I try to use the "MOVE FUNCTION" feature it will not compile. While it is a 1985 compiler, it still must be too old to contain the latest keywords. I've tried to find a compiler, but it seems the only ones out there I've found are for industry and they cost a fortune. I just want one that allows me to practice my Cobol (on a Windows 2000 pc). Can you tell me where I can get a compiler that will allow me to do this, and the place to get the best price on it? And better yet, is there a free, up-to-date compiler out there? Thank you for your help!!

Hi,
Have a look in thread209-272600 which has some links to cheap or free compilers which may work better for you.

I hope this is how I'm supposed to reply in this post.

MarcLodge, the thread you listed is what I needed! I didn't find this earlier when I did a search for Cobol compilers. Thank you for your expert help!
