Necessary to renew Gold Maintenace to receive definitions/use product?

Just wondering if it's necessary to renew the gold maintenace for the enterprise edition in order for us to continue to use the products and receive definition updates. I realize we would no longer get product update...

No, the Gold maintenance contract is primarily technical support. Letting it expire will not prevent you from getting virus definitions.

However, if you have a licensed (small business) version, the license can expire, preventing definition updates.

Keep in mind that if you have an old version from before Symantec came up with the licensing scheme, eventually the definitions will probably have to evolve to a point that they won't work with old versions. This happened with the ancient NAV 5 some years ago.
