Hi everyone!

I have a client with pbx NEC SV8500 installed. He asked me if would be possible to automate the extension blocking process (maybe change the extension access permissions) . I think normally a pbx would have a programming API like CISCO Call Manager for instance but NEC makes this harder or a inside solution.

Do you know if this is possible?

thanks

Please clarify. Are you looking to restrict internal station to station calling?

Thank you belvedere.

I´m looking for blocking extension from making external calls.

I have a routine that checks how much an extension can spend, so when it gets to the limit the routine needs to go to the pbx and change the extension to block it from making any call.

Toll restrictions would need to be programmed into a class of service. Once that is done you can assign the COS to the phone.
CMD ATDP is used, however you need to know your trunk routes and LCR settings. I suggest getting a trained tech to come in and set it up for you initially. Mistakes here can block outgoing calls unintentionally.

got it, but is this possible to be done from an external software? I won´t be doing anything but I need to tell the client if this is possible to do. Do NEC has an API to be programmed ?

After the COS being assigned to the phone? Is there any way my software can block the extension from making calls?

There are ways of doing this but it wouldn't be something that could be easily explained in a forum, it is used by the hotel motel package and is known as PMS. There are seperate manuals for this type of thing but there is also a PMS simulator out there and you may be able to get hold of that and see what it is sending to the PABX to achieve what you want and then duplicate that in your own system.

Ozzie, is PMS an extra module my client would have to purchase from NEC ? Sorry about these clueless questions, but I´m trying to find a solution for them. They seem to be pushed by NEC to buy their proprietary billing system with extension locking and the client is looking for more open alternatives.

PMS is a property management system, typically used in Hotel/Motel applications where check in/check out is used frequently. These systems are also capable of changing classes of service to restrict the phones in unoccupied rooms.

Thanks Belevedere, I will check with the client if they have this module.

So I guess Nec has a more close approach than Cisco, which has an API and you can work with XML and develop integrated solutions.
