Hi folks

Firstly, not a Telco tech - just inherited an NEC SV8100 as part of my IT job. Also, if there was an NEC tech within 500 miles of here, I would be using them :)

The problem I have is with the NEC dropping out mid call then not allowing outgoing calls - can't get a line. Sometimes the call just comes back - like it has been frozen for a few seconds or more or it is just lost. System has three lines I believe in a round robin. Also, the manufacturer's password has been changed from the default and the unit is well out of any contract. Any ideas?

Without the password, I can't get to some sections such as 76xx to see how things are setup. Also, I can't backup the unit which is a worry...

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Glen

Only NEC can recover the password for you, so contact them directly, they can also put you in touch with the nearest vendor who can help you.

How are your lines delivered? Are they PSTN or SIP. If they are SIP have you checked if there are any problems with the service they are delivered over? Is it the lines or the system that freezes?

So many questions, so little information.

I am not aware of any program 76xx in the 8100 system. 76xx is a command in the NEAX 2000 system and the SV-8300 system. Are you sure it's an SV-8100? It looks very similar to the SV-8300. If you press FNC + 3 on any display phone it will provide some information. Only the SV-8100 system does that. If you get nothing, then it's an 8300.
As for your issue, is it happening on all of the trunks or just one or two? Has the system ever taken a lightning or power hit? Have you reset the trunk card or the system? If you place the call on then off hold does it come back? Do you know what software level you have? Older 8100 software had some trunk issues. Mostly with ground start trunks.

Nice pick up, I missed that!

This reminds me of an old problem we had with early VoIP connections and the Jitter buffer, but let's wait and see.

Folks, definitely an SV8100 - firmware from program 90-34 is:

Slot
Name Firmware Version
001 VOIP(0) 03.01
002 BRT 02.05
003 BRT 02.05
004 ESI(8) 02.03
005 SLI(4) 02.0A
006 VM(2) 04.06

Problems are increasing - call forwarding when unanswered is no longer working and calls still drop out. NEC cannot give me the password either - it was reset by the company that did the install.

Any ideas?

Just found this on 90-16

01 Version 02.05
02 Oct 9 2009 05:06:17

If your CPU is at 2.05 then you need to update it to the latest 9.5. There were many bugs and issues resolved between 2.05 and 9.5. You do not need the update license if you are not going to use any of the added features, but it will update for bugs and fixes.
