Has anyone successfully installed a NEC DTL digital set, further than the recommended 1800 ft distance, using a booster device (i.e. a transformer)
I know that there was a way to do this on the old Nortel systems. I checked with NEC tech support, and they weren't quite sure, and didn't have any definitive answers.

No such extender that I know of. Some extra distance can be gained by doubling up the pairs but any considerable distance would probably need you to go IP.

Thanks for your reply, I had hoped to avoid going IP, but it looks like there is no other option.

How far do you want to go and how many extensions? I am not that conversant with the 8100 (I'm an old school IPS person but a Dterm is a Dterm). It may be worth looking into other options for a cheaper solution such as an analogue via ATAs over IP.

I'm actually going to the customer site today, and will take all of the junction points out of the cable, as it running through 3 IDF's, to see if I can get it as one piece of copper from point A to point B.
The analog solution is a good idea, and I will mention it to the customer, but they had full featured Nortel sets at the far locations before, and are used to having the bells and whistles that an analog set wouldn't give them. I'll let you know how it turns out.
