NEC SL1100 intermittently mutes

After about 5 minutes of being on the phone randomly the phone sounds like it goes dead, like the phone isnt plugged in anymore. Then it comes back and infrequently this happens while on a call.
Any ideas?

Hmm sounds like call waiting is enabled, except nec don't call it that. 15-02-12 set to no off hook ringing.
