NEC SIP Signaling Gateway vs SIP Handler Controlled SIP terminal on SV8500

I'm reading up on this Sip Signaling Gateway, and it seems to me that for all intents and purposes, it's the same as the "SIP Handled Controlled SIP terminal":
It allows 3rd party SIP phones to be used on the SV8500/9500, with also, special tones (Service Set Tone, Stutter Tone, etc) working.

Am I missing something? Which one has advantages over the other?
