NEC projector on-screen display

ugh..
i'm using an NEC MultiSync model MT1040 in our conference room. my problem is with the projector, which displays something like "status" info at the top of the screen all the time, when its power is on.
The display looks like time/date info and video source info, though it is not filled in.
Example:
/ / 00:00:00 No source.

i haven't been able to get rid of it - any ideas? product manual mentions nothing that i've been able to find yet.
