Hoping I can get a useful pointer here.
The system is labelled a NEC NEAX 7400 ICS, though it contains 3 x 8DLCL cards which I've been told means the CPU is from an IPS/IVS.

I have a BRI connected to a 4BRTA card, which used to route to a single extension. Suddenly over Christmas this has stopped working (just get a beep when you ring the public number), and carrier (Telstra) says the line tests ok to PABX, so NT1 should be ok.

I am going to power down and swap out the BRTA card, but I am wondering which CAT Command Code & Data I need to check to verify routing to extension is ok ? I do have all the NEAX manuals, and have configured most types of old and new phone systems.

Ok so you are obviously in Oz.

This means that the designations used here are slightly different (being primarily an American site! The odds are you have an IVS2 as it is known here but you could also have an ICS 110 (Aussie designation) so simplest way of asking is does it have a metal facecover or a plastic one, if plastic is it grey or blue? Metal is (usually) an IVS (as it is known internationally), Grey plastic is the IVS2 and blue is the IPS!

Simple fact is that this is most likely a hardware fault as the programming doesn't change it's self!

Whereabouts are you as with the electrical storms associated with cyclone Iggy, I would guess at the west!

Do you have the ISDN programming manual as that is the best reference for these problems!

Let me know how much help you need!

Yeah I am in sunny Melbourne in the middle of the CBD.

This system has a metal grey faceplate from memory. And it is labelled as 7400 ICS, which I gather is equivalent to IVS in the US. I have the ISDN manual from here (I hope it is the right one)
I will bring in a refurb BRTA card which I will put in (is it just a simple power off, insert card, power on ?)

Am hoping not to touch the programming if I can help it, but I do want to connect a couple of extra handsets, and with any luck all of the DLCL ports are just ready to go!

Any help you can offer would be great .. are there any gotchas I should watch out for?

I would check the manual to see if there is a make busy switch (I can check tomorrow and confirm just can't remember), if there is, you can just set both cards to make busy remove the old and insert the new then unbusy the card without powering the system down! Check all switches are set the same before inserting the new card including the rotary sense switch. I don't have a manual to hand so I'm working from an imperfect memory!!!! (already had a couple of SSBs) Will check the books tomorrow (Perth time).

Ok Just remembered that I had the DVD in the laptop bag!

Yes there is a make busy switch (silver toggle switch) and there are three switches to check. The sense switch which is a rotary switch on the front of the card, switch 0 near the front of the card under the LEDs and switch 1 in the lower left quadrant near the middle of the right side of that quadrant.

By the way, if it has a steel front and 8DLCL cards then you have what is known in OZ as an ICS110 which was a cut down version of the ICS120 (US IVS). You need the same lead as the IVS2 and IPS to connect to it via the serial port but a simple cheat is to dial into it via the built in modem rather than buy the cable!

Back to the SSB!

I have used the internal modem on other systems as a last resort before, but how do I identify the ext. number of the ICS110 builtin modem?

Do I need MATworx to talk to the system, or just hyperterminal or something similar?

Use CAT mode on a Dterm and command 4010 de 1 de to get the BIM number.

Use hyperterminal or another terminal emulator, MatWorx does not work with this system (there was an early version that did but nobody used it and it was a bit clunky).

FYI..had a win on this job.
New ISDN and phones all working smoothly.
