NEC NEAX 2400IPX - Dterm Series E Speaker button

Hello all,

Does anyone know if the speaker button can be disabled on a Dterm Series E phone?

Apparently someone wants an employee to not be able to use the speakerphone ability on their phone. I'm assuming it's a distraction.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have never tried to, but do you have MAT Worx? If so go to station assignment, put in the ext. number and get the data. Then go to key assignment and select the phone type you are working on, scroll down, and you can change the speaker button to what ever, maybe a speed dial key? or something. As I said I have never tried this but let us know if it works. If it doesn't work you can always go the tried and true method by splitting open the case on the phone and put a piece of electrical tape or equilivent on the circuit board to block the speaker key contact from making a connection. I know that will work!! Been there done that a log time ago with the older NEC 1648 systems that didn't have enough outgoing line/tenent restrictions. Showing my age here!

Ooops....I just noticed you are asking about a 2400. I was thinking 2000. Anyway splitting the case on the phone will still work.

I have MAT R18 2.06, Build Number 2005/01/13.

I could not find a way to assing the key, but I'm a noob too.

Do you know how to do it in the MAT?

You can open the phone and unplug the speaker. That will stop them until they figure out it's the phone and swap it with another.

The only thing about unplugging the speaker is they won't be able to hear it ring.

That was my first thought too concerning disconnecting the speaker.

My personal opinion is that the user's boss needs to tell him to stop using the speaker button because it's bugging people.
But that would make too much sense, I guess.

Anyway, I almost always prefer to do changes in software if at all possible, but I ended up cracking open the phone and doing some black tape administration.

Worked like a charm.

In akyd you can set the phone so that you can change the flex keys. THe spk key is a flex key. You can leave the spk blank but then you need to assign all of the other flex keys (Recall, Hold, Transfer, etc)
