Hello All,

I am new to the forum and in dire need of help. I am installing a NEC NEAX 2000 system for a client and i am having trouble finding out how to connect the incoming Cbeyond lines to it. Normally i am accustomed to seeing CO phone inputs but this does not seem to have anything like that. The customer bought it from Warner Brothers Studios and it was in use there but i am not sure how it was wired. Manuals dont offer much help with incoming line connections. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Ideally you need the ISDN manual. however I'm sure we can help. first we need to know the model of 2000, IVS/IVS2/IPS?

Then we need to know what cards you have and the slots you have them in (or propose to put them in). Remember that in a multi PIM install, the first ISDN card/set needs to be in PIM 0.

Hello Ozzie Thanks for the reply. It is a IPS model. I only have 1 pim and the cards are as follows.

VM/LT00 slot has a VM card with HDD.

LT01, 02, and 03 have PN-8DLCP Cards.

LT05 has a PN-8LCS card.

LT07 and 08 have PN-8COTP cards.

LT11 has a PN-4DITB card.

and MP12 has a PN-cp24-D card.

Our goal is to have 20 incoming lines from t1 provider route to 11 phone stations(Dterm E series).

Since this system was in use at Warner Brothers some of the phones are already set to communicate with eachother via conferencing and transferring. As far as programming goes i have figured out how to change date and time but the rest is Chinese to me thus far and i have been reading the damn manuals for 10 hours now.

Cbeyond (the provider from ATT) is scheduled to be here at 630 monday morning (12 hours from now) and i have no idea how they are going to introduce their incoming lines to the system. I have the customers OLD NEC system here in case i need to plug it back in and get his business back in operation. The old system was pretty self explanatory since the cards had inputs for phones lines.

My guess is that a single ethernet cable from their modem is going to plug into one of these cards (wishful thinking).

Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Also I forgot to mention that i currently have 11 phones and only 9 of them light up when we connect. I have made sure that the punch downs are correct and to test this further i connected a phone directly to the 25 pair cable that should be ext 110 AND 111 but no luck. I am thinking this has something to do with programming?

Thanks

You have no ISDN (T1) card, just an 8COT card for 8 PSTN and a 4DITB card but I think you'll find that is for analogue indial trunks. If you have no programming knowledge, I would start looking for a paddle salesman with the time you have available. There are different ways of connecting the T1 (an older 2 card set or the more modern single card, however the newer cards can have firmware for different functions, so I am loathe to advise which way to go (especially with the differences between countries.

I would seriously suggest getting in touch with your local vendor.

That Makes much more sense now. The client has no idea what he bought he just knows it was 400 bucks and that was enough to seal the deal for him.

Since i have your attention let me bug you with one more thing:

I wanted a clean slate to start from scratch with the programming so i did what the manual told me to do and set the SW3 to B and pressed SW1. Alot of clicking and flashing occured and once complete all phones are off. Cant even get the displays to work. I dug my hole deeper. At least before we could conference phones together even though we are missing EXTs 105 106 107. Now i have dead displays.

Any thoughts?

i should also mention that the equipment Cbeyond provided has a 25pair cable coming out of it that used to punch into the old system.

Their Modem connects to their circuit through 2 pairs and an ethernet line comes out of that and into the unit that has a 25 pair output and 2 ehternet outputs. Is it safe to assume that with a T1 card we can run an ethernet line out instead of the 25 pair?

First you have done a B load which means you have a clean slate however if you had a fly card in the first slot you would have a single working Dterm. This would be a worst case scenario for a newbie as there is now no number plan and no cot programming or for that matter much else!

Call a vendor as a matter of urgency! Just to give you an idea of where you are at, Cmd 08 has around 400 sub commands and that is just for basic system features! I'm not saying you will need to change all of them but you need to know which to change and different countries have different requirements so I can't be sure I can advise you!

Thanks so much for taking the time to help out. As it turns out cbeyond was not even supplying T1 just standard analog lines which we were prepared for. Saves us $1600 dollars for a T1 card! Customer was misinformed. I found a local nec tech who will be programming the features for me on wednsday. In the meantime I installed an older nec electra to route calls for client until then.
Again thank you for the help.

Sorry it wasn't as much help as I would have hoped to be able to give but you did give us a tall order!

All the best for the new year

Ozzie!

Just got home and noticed that the wonderful auto correct feature on my Iphone has changed DLC to fly inan earlier post. Don't you love modern technology?

If you still do not have a working system, perform the same procedure this time set the switch to a "C". That will load a basic working system database.

EX: Set CPU sense wheel to C, press the reset button, wait for the alarm light to come on the power card, then set the switch back to 0 DO NOT press the reset button. It should come back up with a default program.

Thank you for the input Belevedere. I have taken the system to an NEC programmer for the whole setup as i do not have time.

Thanks!
