NEC LCD Projector on IBM A30 Laptop

I am trying to hook up a NEC LCD Projector to an IBM A30 Series Laptop. Everything works fine except I cannot get the remote mouse to work. The mouse plugs into a PS/2 port on the projector and USB on the laptop. When I plug in the remote mouse it really really slows down the laptop but doesn't work. Any ideas

No easy answer for you, but I do have questions....

What O/S are you using?
What model of projector?
Has a mouse or keyboard ever worked on your laptop when simply plugged into the PS/2 port?
Have you ever had USB devices work on the laptop? Mudskipper

Is there an install diskette W/ the projector, for the laptop's USB? Is it the original ps/2 to USB cable that came W/ the projector? Do you have a USB mouse to test laptop W/ (because the projector's ps/2 output is just mimicking a normal mouse)? Maybe try another computer W/ USB input.
