Is there anyone that could give me some guidance on how to configure a NEC Elite IPK system? I have 12 trunk lines and about 50 extensions and I'm not sure where to even start. Do I need to do something to configure a trunk group first? Set telephone extensions? I'm completely lost!

Even if you know someone in Pennsylvania that could come in to set this up would be appreciated.

If this is a new set up, then you can turn the battery on the CPU off, power down, power up. The system has a default program that will give you most of what you need. It will automatically recognize the trunks and extensions. VM will need configuring. Button customization and any special set up beyond default will need to be programmed. I suggest downloading some manuals at They are free.
NOTE: the system is well past production and support.

This isn't a new setup. It has been installed many years and a power outage seems to have wiped all the programming out. I'm aware its unsupported but I'm trying to get it some what usable while we wait for a new phone system to be installed because they told us the ETA is 30-60 days.

I cant even call another extensions all it does it beep and page all phones.

I have manuals and even a programming manual but its confusing for someone that has never done anything with a phone system and what's needed. I'm not even sure what some of these terms mean.

I cant even call another extensions all it does it beep and page all phones. - a defaulted system should not react this way.
Turn the battery on the CPU off, power down, power up. A power hit system may not have defaulted properly.
Can you list some specific programming you need?
The company I work for can deliver a system in less than 1 week with a usable default program and remote support. 30 -60 days is unreasonable.

Just so I get the right thing. Your talking about this battery right?

as for programming needs to start with. I'd like to get the overhead paging to work. I'd like to set extensions for the phones and be able to do ext to ext dialialing. One auto attendant for all incoming calls and redirect the calls to a a specific phone for the operator.

I reset it like you said. I also reset it using this..
Press Feature
Enter on the keypad # 0 * 8 9 7 4
Press the 8th line key 2 times ( see below )
Enter on the keypad 8 8 0 0
Press Transfer

I think the ext. to ext. dialing is working even though I hear a beep. I am guessing the beep is a default "ring tone"?

The beep is probably the alert tone for voice calling. Press 1 after the beep to make the phone ring. The EZP is probably a service code which may have been programmed under a button. Since you already know how to get into program mode, go to MB 4-12, select a station port, (see 4-10 for port vs ext numbers), select a button and assign itto a feature access (06) line key 6, 01 for the first FA key, 02/03/04 etc. Once that is done, at the phone program up the FA key as feature access code 55. To confirm, dial 55 and see if the EZP works. A MLT user guide is useful for programming FA keys at each extension.
Press Feature, redial, the button, 1, 55, Feature to program up the button.
Auto Attn is a bit tricky. You must first go to MB 7-1 and put in the slot where the VM card is. Find the ports assigned. Go to MB 4-10 and assign the port numbers as 300-303. Go to MB 4-14 assign the port number for x 300 as yes LK@ for ICM master hunt.
Go to MB 4-15, start with the port number for x 300, assign it to 301, go to the port number for 301, assign it to 302, etc til the port for 302 is set to 303. (4 port VM). Dial 300 and see if the VM answers.

Pressing 1 after the beep does make the phone ring. I'm kind of lost on this next step. "go to MB 4-12, select a station port, (see 4-10 for port vs ext numbers), select a button and assign itto a feature access (06) line key 6, 01 for the first FA key, 02/03/04 etc.

I goto MB 4-12 (pressing LK4 then 12) then 01/12:L01=CO 01 is displayed on the phone. Is the first number the port? pressing "conf" moves to the next port? After that I'm not sure what you mean by selecting a button to assign it to a feature access line key 6,01.

Sorry I'm confused. I just figured out the MB 4-12 means press the line key 4 then enter 12.

The overhead paging is something they really want working. Is there something I can do to get this working first? On telephones without a page button they dialed 821680. On telephones with a page button they dialed page 80.
I'm pretty sure the paging is on port 64. Port 64 is ext 163 and if I dial the it ring on the overhead paging.

you mentioned "The company I work for can deliver a system in less than 1 week with a usable default program and remote support." Is your company in PA? Is this current NEC system something you or someone there could come on site to setup?

Sorry, we are not in PA. We sell to resellers and end users. We provide a 90% to 95% turn key system. If you can handle cross connects and provide a PC with team viewer access, we can do the rest remotely. If you have any interest, provide a temporary email address, then delete it so we can contact you. We'll need to know how many phones you have 12 or 24 buttons and number of trunks.
Keep in mind that you lost the program after a power outage. This means that the back up battery on the CPU is most likely no good. So another power outage after re-programming will lose the data again. Spending time and money on this system is not a good idea.

I understand another power outage would wipe it again and would need a battery or reprogrammed again if the power went out. I don't think I can provide the cross connect as I'm not sure how you would access the phone system from there. I can certainly provide a PC with Team Viewer.

I can certainly provide a PC with Team Viewer. This would be used on the new system. The IPK has no remote access without special cards and an old analog modem. What city are you in? Do you have an NEC vendor? At this point you need a tech to come in and re-program it for you. Black Box used to work on those systems. You might try reaching out to them.

Okay, one last question. How can I tell if this unit is an IPKI or IPKII?

IPK log in that you used. # 0 * 8 9 7 4 is for the IPK/Electra Elite systems. The IPK-II is very different.
