I am having trouble checking messages in a group mailbox on a NEC Elite Mail voice mail system integrated with a NEC Elite IPK II key system. After dialing into the "backdoor" number I enter #9 and the number of the group mailbox the system pauses and reply's back with "I could not hear your selection".

I can log into a standard user's mailbox with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bear with me it's been awile since I set up group boxes, but from what I can remember when you add the group box you name it, record the name, etc. Then you add the people (mailboxes) to that group that you want to get the messages left for that group box. There is also a dispatch option that needs to be set. If you set it to YES the first person that listens to the message will be the only one that receives it. The rest of the people in the groups box will have their message light turned off and the message will be gone. If you set it to dispatch NO then all persons in the group will have to listen to it before their light goes out. So long story short when group messages are left in the group box the users of the group should just log into their personal mailbox to check the message and the voice mail will tell them they have a message from what ever name you recorded in the group box.

Would that turn on my message waiting lights on the rest of my phones at home?

I have an Elite 48 at home with a 4-port voicemail... ummm... the one with the CF card in it... (ugh.... I should look at it before posting)... anyway, is there an option to set up groups in that, and if I were to put all the other extensions in the group for my voicemail, would their lights come on when there's a message?

The reason I ask is I have phones all over the house, but the only one I use for voicemail is at my desk... it would be nice if the kitchen phone and stuff light came on when someone left me a message.

If I remember correctly only internal mailbox users (or if logged in to their box from outside the office) can leave messages for a group box directly since there is no way to record a greeting for that type of box. You can only record the name of the box. I have used a "work around" on the AD-64 and had the voice mail copy messages from an after hours mailbox for let's say tech support (mailbox 5001) to the group box (6001) so the on call group of techs can get the call. I am not sure of your expertise on the voice mail or what revision you have, but the new LX versions of Elite Mail have copy features the same as the AD-64. You would have to look at yours to see if it is possible.

The following may seem like jibberish, but if you know someone who can program your system this will make sense to them:

On the elite 48 you can turn on DSS msg waiting in prog 1-8-08 page 6, LK2.

So you could assign one ext (eg: ext100) to be the main ext where all the msgs are stored. Then you would put a DSS key of ext 100 on all the phones. when there is a msg in mailbox 100, the DSS key would blink on all the phones.

There are a couple of different ways to achieve what you're trying to do just depends on your preference on exactly how you want it look/work.

Thanks for the replies to this thread.

I am waiting for the vendor to get onsite to evaluate the problem. It is in a remote office from my office and I can't dial in to check the programming due to the AA not recognizing the digits entered to transfer me to the internal modem.

Hopefully this will be resolved today!!
