I don't work on these much. I am not even sure the actual model of the voice mail system. It is not external though, it is a card in the system. Today, I reinitialized/reset a user's mailbox. While in system admin, when I do a CKBX (check box), and enter mbox number 103, which is the one I reset to new, it tells me there is NO SECURITY CODE. In my understanding, when there is a new mailbox, the user guide says the user will automatically be prompted with all of the options to set up their box, including setting a new security code. I read that the default sec. code is the mailbox number. That is not working. I just keep hearing "I'm sorry, invalid security code". I can leave messages in this box, but the user cannot access the box. HELP!!
Also, when I dial into the vm system at 116 and enter 632 and pswd, there is a name of a user that no longer exists. why would there be a name on the sys admin box? Or is it that you can access the sys admin from any box with a 632?

p.s. I would not have even been able to get into the system admin portion if not for Tek-Tips!

I got a forum just for ya in future, 12 years old now.

You can only access admin from any mailbox that has been granted permission by the admin.

As for problem are you saying that programming states no security code but when you open the mailbox it is asking for one?.

Thanks for the link but which thread were you referring to? I didn't see one that applied.

Yes, when you set the mailbox to "new" in NEC speak, I read that when the user accesses vmail, they should automatically be prompted to set up all their options. This is not happening. Yes, they are being prompted for a security code.
When I go to the manager box and do the checkbox option, is verifies that there is in fact a mailbox on that extension, but it also says "this box has no security code" and there is no prompt to do anything but delete the box or reset it as
"new".
I am going in circles.
I was able to access the manager box by finding some old posts on Tek-Tips.

I was referring you to the NEC forum and not a particular thread, you have posted in the General forum which may not yield as many replies.

Sounds like you are programming via serial to the card (laptop), I have not touched NEC in years so cant recall the screen much.
It was me that actually started the NEC forum, mostly because I needed it bad lol.

Maybe you need to save settings in some way at the bottom of the screen.

Via the administrator mailbox when into the admin section you get prompts like "do you wish to set the mailbox to knew?" or "do you wish to have a security code?"
Try it that way to see if works instead of the laptop.
Can be done remotely too if I recall in case you want to play/test from office or home.

Suggest to post a link in NEC and point to this thread.

The default security code on some of those voice mails is 0327. Unless it was changed by the initial installer.
