Can these systems be programmed to provide voicemail notification to an external email address, like johnsmith@gmail.com?

If so, how?

Those VM systems had a view mail option. An application that could integrate to outlook to view messages. They are no longer supported and may not fit your application.

On the AD-64, you had this option;
E-mail post office setup overview
With e-mail integration, subscribers can use text-to-speech technology to hear their e-mail messages
by phone. Subscribers can include e-mail message totals in their new message count, forward all voice
messages to their e-mail inbox automatically, and forward all incoming faxes to their e-mail inbox as well.

The AD-40 had a similar option;
E-mail cross notify Lets a subscriber receive notification by e-mail of new voice and fax mail
when using the optional E-Mail Integration package. This option applies only to Lotus cc:Mail and
Groupwise e-mail integrations, not to ViewMail for Microsoft Messaging.

Thanx Belvedere,

The situation is an existing AD-40 and existing AD-64 (two systems). Some of the end users for unknown reason want to have vmail notification sent to their external email addresses. Existing email notification is already in place, but to the in house email.
Just like a user can change the notification options for their home phone or cell phone, can the user also specify a different email address? All I have seen in the admin guide is the field to specify the user name. but I need to be able to fill in the domain also.

For example, one user may want to send notification to johnsmith@gmail.com, and someone else may want notification sent to Robert@artistreewoods.com.

Is this possible?

I understand what you want to do. I do not think those systems were up to speed on those features back then. Out dial notification might be the closest you get to it. Maybe someone else knows a better way.

Thanks Ozziegeorge, but I have already looked there. This manual has no info on how to set the email server name/address/routing info.

Are you sure it isn't just that they use anachronistic terminology calling it the post office and login name?

Ozziegeorge, my understanding of how these ancient systems integrate with email is that the email server must be internal to the same network/domain that the vmail is on. According to the install manual you do not enter an IP address or URL for the email server. Instead, you enter a drive letter and folder name.

So wouldn't it be fairly easy to set something up with an auto forward rule get to get it to where you want it to go?

That was my recommendation to the customer. However, he still wanted to verify that the system could not accept gmail as the server.
