NEC 8100 PBX vmail to email delay

I am having some delay with the vmail to email function. The delays are very random, varying from user to user, and doesn't occur on all the vmails. I have verified that our email server is sending them as soon as it gets them, so everything seems to be ok there. The delay seems to be from the PBX to the email server. Any thoughts anyone?
