Hi,

Short Story: IT guy left the company and with him went all the knowledge, manuals and software for this system (this was way before I came in). Slowly but surely I have learned to use CAT MODE to do basic programming (time change, add extension to line, etc.)

Problem: While I was on vacation someone left the company. Unfortunately, he didn't leave his extension password and now the current user of the extension cannot record her message or listen to any messages. What is the CAT command to reset the extension/line password?

Thank you in advance.

This password would be related to the voice mail system. Are you using an in the skin voice mail or is it an external server seperate from the PBX? If it an external, what type is it?

Hi, there is no external server that I'm aware of so it must be an in the skin voice mail.

are you able to identify the voice mail card in the system? Which 2000 system is it? an IVS, IVS2, IPS? To be honest i am more of a 2400 / SV8500 guy but am trying to generate questions you can answer for some of the 2000 gurus on the site. Is CAT mode the only method you have used to program the system?

Ok first the introduction

On the other site I go by the username R4+Z (this site wouldn't let me use that)

From the info posted there It is obvious that you have an IVS. The odds are you have an AD8 voicemail you can tell if that is right if you look at the cards. An AD8 is usually installed in the left most slot of a PIM (cabinet)because it saves losing a slot however that isn'n necessarily a rule. You are looking for two cards bolted together and one of them has a hard disk on it.

The big problem is you need a software package called Cosessions to administer it. You can do most things from a phone if you have administrator status but your problem is going to be finding out which extensions have administrator status.

There is a user guide to be found here....

you might also want to see here....

I haven't been able to find the AD8 admimistrators flowchart on the web but if you follow the prompts you should find the way to reset the password.

Hi Ozzie and NECPBXtech30,

Yes, we do have a NEAX 2000 IVS. Someone here told me that whenever they needed a voicemail password reset, the previous guy used to go to the main phone (the receptionist) and from there he did whatever he did. I can only imagine that he was doing some CAT MODE command or am I wrong? Basically, CAT MODE is the only thing I can use to program this phones.

Probably not CAT mode but a system manager box in the VM. Were you ever able to Identify the Voice mail card?

Yes, It is a NEAXMail AD8. This is driving me nuts but I'm keeping the faith.

Ozzie and NECPBXtech30,

Thank you so much for trying to help me. I finally was able to do it because I found the System Mailbox and the System Security Code. I went through all the menus and it finally got to the part about entering an extension and then "would you like to delete the security code?" I'm so happy. What was bothering me the most was that I found a file named NEC Dterm Series Reset Password but when I opened it was the same as the NEC Dterm Series E Program Buttons document. These were procedures written internally and obviously the Reset Password file was overwritten with the content of the other. Anyway, I'm making sure that the little I know is well documented for me and anyone else who is coming after me.

Thank you again.

Glad you found it cuz i just found this:

As System Manager, you can change the system settings without signing in at a
console. Call the system and sign in with your Personal ID and security code. After
you sign in, you can check your messages and change your setup options. The
system then begins a special series of questions called the System Manager
conversation. Press 0 to skip directly to the System Manager conversation.
The System Manager conversation consists of five questions. Each question has a
shortcut key (shown next to the question in the list below) that allows you to skip to
that set of options immediately. You can exit the conversation anytime by pressing
*** on your telephone.
? Would you like to change a mailbox? ( 4 ) Lets you add a new mailbox,
see if a mailbox has a security code, delete security codes, reset the mailbox for
a new user, or delete a mailbox.
? Would you like to change the opening greetings? ( 5 ) Lets you
switch to or from the holiday mode, and change the day, night, or holiday
greeting.
? Would you like to change the system schedule? ( 6 ) Lets you
change the system clock and date settings, and change the current schedule.
? Would you like to hear system information? (7) Lets you hear system
information such as what software version you are using.
? Would you like to change the operator mailbox? ( 8 ) Lets you assign
the operator mailbox to an extension.

NECPBXtech30,

Thank you, thank you, muchas gracias.

I had written a basic procedure but your note is much much clear so, if you don't mind, I'm going to copy it and paste it in my procedures. You and Ozzie were very helpful and I'm very grateful to both for taking the time and helping this novice. Next good deed that I do will be in you honor (which hopefully will be as soon as the troops get in).

Thanks again.
