I'm trying to fix the PBX that my college bought, supposedly it came from a office working, but I can't seem to get anything to work. I found how to reset or load the resident program, which should give me a dial tone when I plug a phone into the jack, correct? I've already done the procedure to load the program.

The main problem is that I have PN-4DLC in LT1 with a Nec phone (a dterm that's usable with that card) attached to the first two slots on the 66 block. The connections are good, but I'm only getting noise from the phone. I only have the first pair of the cable connected to the block and phone. I'm trying to make this PBX operational, so we can attach more phones later for classes. I've looked at the manuals, that I could find, and this is the closest I've gotten in 6 weeks of work.

I just really need some pointers or ideas on how to get it to work. I'm kinda losing my mind over this thing, I've sunk a lot of hours into it and feeling like I'm spinning my wheels here.

I'll try to keep this post updated on the situation. Thanks for any help in advance and myself, my college, and instructor thanks you for the help.

Also, are PN-4DLC-A's compatible with the dterms or the PBX?

Can you connect to the RS232 port on the backplane of the main cabinet (the one with the CPU in it). IF you can, use a null modem cable and you will be able to talk to the system using HyperTerminal. You may have to play around with the speed settings but try 2400 none 8 1, use the / key and you should get the Command prompt. How did you load the resident program? There are different loads (one of which loads absolutely nothing)! If you have defaulted it, there will be a lot of programming needed so it may be worth getting a qualified tech to help you initially. Did the system come with backup disks and is the system from your local area as it could be advantageous to get the old config reloaded and then play with it from there, thing is you need a special (old DOS) program to load it.

What do you get on the display of the Dterm if anything?

Please post some additional information.
Look at the CPU on the component side for a designation EX: CP00/CP03/CP26/CP14/CP24, this will let us know what generation system you have.
You mentioned that you have a 4DLC card in LT1. The slots begin with LT0. LT0 is the first few pairs on the first LT cable on the 66 block. A "B" load only allows the first telephone to function as a programming point to program through the phone. It will not provide dial tone. A "C" load will bring up a default system.
If you defaulted a CP-00/CP-03 in the US, it will wipe out the registration number. It cannot be re-generated. NEC removed their server years ago. In this case you can only get a single PIM system to function which for training purposes may be OK. If all you did was a system reset, then I'd stop and get into the program to note the registration number so it can be re-input into the program. (CMD F83>0)
You can find manuals at There is no charge for the downloads.
