I have the task to move an NEAX 2000 IPS from one site to another. We currently have 4 units at the same site. My question is, could I just move 2 and leave the other 2 at the current site and have 2 working systems? are this units all the same or does one have the processor and the rest just carry cards with ports for telephones. My idea is to split it and then use the IP functionality of the system to connect both sites together since we have a point to point circuit for the data network right now.
Any thoughts on this?

You can not accomplish what you described. The bottom cabinet does contain the one and only processor for the system. However, If you are currently using IP telephones you could move the entire system and have IP phones at the old location. I don't know what your capacities in the system are, or what type of connectivity you will have between these locations, but it could be done.

What do you mean by a "unit"? Are you referring to the cabinet or what NEC calls a PIM?

no.

The IP functionality will not work like that, you would need a CPU in the remote system as well.

With 3200 series and higher SW the only way to do this is with anpther CPU in the other location. Unless you were using IP phones and they resolved (DRS) to the main location.

Prior to 3200 series sw you use what was called a remote PIM using a DAIA and DAIB card to connect multiple sites. the draw back with this is one T1 would supply you with 23 stations.
