Has anyone used any consultants for your Novell to M$ migration? If so who did you use, what was the cost (roughly)? Thanks!

I used to be a consultant (left only 2 months ago) and did this sort of thing many times. And the standard consulting answer is - it depends. Primarily on the size of your organization. And I assume you are talking both OS and E-mail (so Netware to Windows and GroupWise to Exchange).
How many users?
How many servers?
How many locations?

I recently budgeted about 35K in services for a 60-70 user firm (doesn't include user training). If it is under about 100 users, you can probably do an all-at-once conversion over a weekend. Of course there is a lot of planning, prep and testing before the actual migration. Over 100 or so, you are probably looking at a phased migration over time, so both systems would have to co-exist.

I took a full time position at a firm and we are in the testing phase of that migration, so let me know if you have other questions. I think you can e-mail me through tek-tips and I can get back to you more directly (assuming that is allowed).

Take a look at the products from Quest Software (formarly Wingra). It is excellent for the GroupWise part. They have an NDS to Windows tool as well, but I typically prefer to set up the Windows side manually. Too many things between NDS and Windows that don't translate well.

Wow rjs, you got away with murder!

While working for a Microsoft Certified Partner, our server migrations would be completed in roughly 16 hours for the "average" small business ranging from 5-75 users.

Labor at $125/hr the costs were only $2000.

Add in the cost of a new server and the total costs (running SBS) were usually under $10K depending on what other hardware was needed.

Walyeska, in my opinion one of the key factors is to find a resource that understands scripting so they can automate much of the work. This saves me hours on labor consistenly.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

NDS to AD (hoping that exchange is setup already) i'd go with BindView (now owned by symantec)
