When somebody from an outside domain sends a message to our domain addressed to a non-existent email address they receive this message:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
------
Delivery to the following recipients failed.

name-it-was-sent-to@domain name
------
But if somebody within our domain sends it to the same non-existent address(within our domain) they receive this more descriptive message:
------
name-it-was-sent-to@domain name (date and time)
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
<exchange server name.domain name #5.1.1>
------
How do I make the NDR that are sent to outside our domain be identical to the one we receive inside?

Thanks.

I'd suggest not sending an NDR to the Internet. Your simply telling spammers about your organization.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

OK, but suppose you do want to change the message, what I want to do as well.

Regards, Peter

Did you ever figure this out? I would like to know the same thing!
