I have a netware 6 server at home that I'm experimenting with and trying to learn. Some people I've talked to say that NDPS is convoluted and I should just use classic queue based printing. And others say its the best thing that happened to printing. I managed to pick up an NDPS capable print server off ebay and am going to experiment with it anyway.

My setup at home is only 2 printers shared with 4 users. I know NDPS (and even netware)is probably overkill. But what are your recommendations? Do corporations use this feature? Does it save time? Hard to use? Any comments much appreciated. Thanks

Definately go with NDPS. It has it's own quirks and problems but I've found it to be much better than queue-based printing.

As long as you can assign an IP address to your printer...or an external print server it attaches to...you won't have any problems configuring it for NDPS printing.

There's three basic steps.
1) Create and start the broker object(BROKER.NLM).
2) Create and start the manager object(NDPSM.NLM).
3) Create an NDPS printer object.

You have to do all this in iManager or NWADMIN. I suggest iManager since Novell is dumping NWADMIN at some point.

Check this Novell webpage...scroll down to the Manage Network Printing section and there you will find all you need to know for NDPS and iPrint.

Enjoy,
Matt
