We just moved our NDPS printers over to iPrint, so now all our HP printers are using the novell gateway instead of the HP Gateway. Through the move, most printers are fine, a few gave me the LPR error (communications error) so I tried the suggest from another thread by using RAW host:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, and also the 9101... but now just get:

Printer State: Gateway Not Bound to Printer Agent

I then tried recreating the old NDPS printer object through iManager like it suggested and still have the same outcome.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

That's not the correct thing to do..

When you have LPR communication errors, it's usually because the printer requires a non-default configuration in order to accept information from the Novell server.

In iPrint terms you need to know the LPR name, which is sometimes referred to as the LPR Queue name (Varies by printer).

You have to figure out what model of printer you are using, specifically the Jet Direct device, and change the default to whatever the device requires.

The default is "PASSTHROUGH" and works on most HP pritners. Note that on some VERY OLD printers, I have been unable to get LPR to work at all. This name can be configured on the Agent tab in iManager on each printer. You'll know you're in the right spot cause you'll see the load string for the printer agent and it should contain 'PASSTHROUGH' somewhere in there.

Make sure you update the firmware on your JetDirect devices, and check this Novell TID for the proper name to use (Or you may be able to find it in the Printer bios)
