Anybody that is familiar with the mainframe tool, can you tell me if the COMPRESS function does a true compression on the file during transfer?

Troll,

I've used Connect:Direct at various sites and am pretty certain that it will perform an efficient compression during file transfer. There's a number of Google-able docs out there that back this up, but none that I can find that actually give the compression ratio. I believe that it depends upon the type of data being compressed.

There's an article here that says:
"Connect:Direct also enables Wachovia Bank to compress files, which shortens the transmission time and eases the stress on the network".

Hope this helps.

Marc

It does...thanks...we had suspected that the compression was happening during transfer for those reasons..
