Does anyone have experience moving applications from NCR Galaxy COBOL?

Tom Morrison

If Galaxy was ITX cobol, we have converted hundreds of sources to Unix.

From what I understand there is a Galaxy shell on an NCR Unix-based machine. I am familiar with ITX COBOL (!) but the Galaxy shell brings in environment factors (library CALLs, etc) with which I am unfamiliar.

Hi,
From my recollection, there wasnt any ITX system call that couldnt be replaced by a Unix system call. Even the ITX jcl has unix equivalents, primary "export". I believe there used to be (and still may be) a company called Seay Systems that marketed an alternative to Galaxy.

Hi

When we shifted from NCR/ITX to RM/COBOL UNIX/NCR & after that to AIX/unix, we checked Galaxy.

Galzxy keep the logic of ITX JCL language, & dynimacly convert to unix shels .

WE decided to build programes that will convert directly to UNIX terms. about 1000 programes.
