Any recommendations or criticisms of third party tools which can create navigation bars and menu's in an asp.net website.

I havn't worked with any, but if you have some really keen developers working for you, those sort of controls really aren't that hard to create with the control's given by microsoft.

I'd maybe look into that first before buying controls from third parties.

Just my thoughts though. Anyone else?

Yea, personally, I like to use fireworks to create my menus and such when I need something more than just straight windowed controls.

Once you use their tool to create the framework, it's very easy to go into their generated javaScript code, and point the action of your menus to your own custom written functions and such.
