Does anyone know how to use the css, js to do:
When clicking on the navigation bar list item, change the content in the main area accordingly.

The normal way is to make each navigation option link to another page that has the same navbar, etc. but different content in the main area. That's how tek tips works, for example.

An alternative is to use (i)frames to hold the content area(s). I'm not going to open another flame war about the virtues, or otherwise, of frames - you can get that in thread215-1088578 . Personally I dislike frames, some take a different view.

... or use javascript in the onclick() event of the navigation item to change the innerHTML of the content area tag, or to change the visibility(style="Display:none;" or style="Display:block;") of content divs on the page.

Thanks very much for all the ideas!! I will try them out. :)
