Does anyone know whet the difference between the two versions, and can they be mixed? We have NT and W2K servers and workstations. Will 7.6 clients connect to the servers to get their definitions? Thanks!

As I remember the main differnce was for Windows XP compatibility.

I've no idea as to what other options have changed. J.R. Juiliano

Correct, it was support for Windows XP that was added. I believe you can actually connect any 7.x versions to a managed server, so yes you should be able to mix them. However, I would recommend running the same version on all machines just to make supporting them easier.

Another change was the "Shutdownwait" registry key. in 7.5 it was set to 5 seconds. 7.6 they have changed it to 0. This caused some W'95/98 clients to hang at shut down.

The versions can be mixed but, versions of SSC and NAV don't like to be mixed. I recommend Managing all your 7.5 clients on the old version of SSC and all your 7.6 clients on the new version. i.e. 2 Server Groups and 2 Parent servers for the two versions. You can use GRC.DAT to change the parent servers on the clients when you upgrade them.

Or you can try McAfee's ePO. Manages both 7.5x and 7.6 from the same console.

Just a suggestion :)
