After suffering horrendous boot delays on a 3.2 Ghz WinXP machine and terrible startup delays with Microsoft Word I've finally resolved the issues (no thanks to Symantec Support):
1) Boot delays varying from 23 secs to 2 minutes were FINALLY eliminated by disabling NAV Live Update (finally figured this out checking the application log). NOW I AM BACK TO A CONSISTENT 23 SEC BOOT!!!!!!!!!!!. The price to pay, though, is to remember to frequently perform Live Update (manually) to keep everything up to date.
2) Horrendous delays in uSoft Word startup (while connected to the internet) were attributed to download time needed for fresh verisign CRL files. My habit of frequently clearing the IE cache (where CRLs apparently reside) was apparently causing this. If I don't clear the cache, Word consistently pops up instantly like it should.
Hope this info helps someone.
