Hi Everyone,

I have NAV Pro 2003 installed on Win XP Pro and it won't log into the email POP server (I use Eudora) while the scan incoming and outgoing email buttons are checked. When I remove the checks, it logs into the server and the mail can be retrieved. However, with this option I assume my email is not being checked for viruses. Can someone please help with this problem?

Also, I have Norton Internet Security installed and it won't allow me to open IE unless it's disabled. Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

John

That's kinda funny. NIS thinks that IE is a security risk! Who woulda thought! :)

There's probably a config option to enable NIS to allow IE to open and be used. Although I would consider Mozilla just out of personal preferences...

About the POP protection, you should see a box pop up if it is being used correctly to scan for e-mail as they are going in and out. If it's not coming up something's not right. Shouldn't matter what e-mail client you are using, as NAV uses some kind of internal proxy to filter out the mail before it hits your inbox.

From the help files:

Turning on/off Email Scanning

To turn Email Scanning on or off, at the top of the Norton AntiVirus main window, click Options. Under Internet, click Email. Check/uncheck Scan Incoming Email and Scan Outgoing Email. See the table above for option settings and corresponding status displayed.

Error troubleshooting

If Email Scanning displays an "Error" status:

1 Turn on Email Scanning using the procedure described above.

2 If step 1 does not fix the error, restart your computer.

3 If step 2 does not fix the error, uninstall and reinstall Norton AntiVirus.

Real obvious and helpful, isn't it? The only thing I can add is that you should make sure that the bottom options are selected so you see the tray icons and/or the progress indicators up and running.

Hi JR,

Thanks for the reply and advice. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling NAV and see if that makes any difference. I've been down the other paths. With regard to NIS, it won't allow access to IE if it's on. Disabled it works, but that's about as handy as a hip pocket in a jockstrap. I've installed Zone Alarm and it's working perfectly. Is this a wise choice of security programs?

Thanks again for your help JR, it's much appreciated.

Regards,

John

Hope the NAV thing works out.

Zone Alarm is a good program! Might even be worth it to buy the Pro version, as you'll get to configure more with it.

Hi JR,

I had no joy with the NAV re-install. It still won't let me into the email server with the scan incoming and outgoing email checked. Not quite sure what to do next. Any further suggestions?

Thanks again.

John
