Hello there,
I've been left trying to administrate a small network - I have no formal training but I seem to be doing OK so far with the help of a load of thick books and forums such as these. I know it is not ideal but I'm just muddling through until we can hire a professional...
We're running NAV corporate edition and the live updates were going fine. However, the date has stuck on 28/01/02. I have tried doing manual updates but the date is still the same.
Has our account ran out? Is is time to upgrade? Or is it something more sinister?
I wasn't involved in the set up of the network and am not sure how old the software is.
If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
Many thanks,

F

Right now the most current definitions should be 2/27/02 rev.5.

You need to find out how the clients are getting their definitions (either by getting the defs from the server or getting them individually from Live Update).

One item might be that there is a new engine definition. You won't be able to load new virus definitions if the engine is too old.

You just need to poke around and find out what the settings are with the AV server. That way you can find out what your clients are doing and work to fix that behavior.

Another thing is to read the manaul for NAV CE. You can get it at the symantec website ( and look under Enterprise Solutions.

BTW, as far as I know you will be able to get updates for the life of the product, with or without licensing. You will just be in violation of the terms if you do this without licenses. I had ours run out (on version 7.5) and only a call to Symantec verified that our licenses had expired. They don't call you, e-mail you or do anything to help you out. J.R. Juiliano

Thanks for your replies. It would appear that only half my workstations are runing NAV from the server - the rest are going it alone. I've done the intelligent updater thing so I'm all covered for now but I'll have do do a lot more reading and fiddling about to get it all going smoothly.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

My question would be what OS are you running? XP.....2000...? In most cases here we run NT 4.0 but have a few stations now that are on WINDOWS 2000 and there was one file that I had to delete before the workststion would do the liveupdate.
If you are running this I could find the file name if the liveupdate is not working.
