Hi,

Technical support have told me twice (when I had probs and called them) that I should upgrade from 2.11 to 2.18 - may fix it.

I have the upgrade (downloaded from web) but they advise removing program and re-installing. Would need to call in an expert to do this kind of thing, so am cautious to proceed.

For a single server user of Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition 7.5, what are the benefits of upgrading this component? We need the BEST and MOST SECURE protection against e-mail viruses, as we get quite a lot coming into our server (all stopped with program).

Current problem is that registry editing done to get program to quarantine certain file attachments seems to "go overboard" and block ALL unknown attachments, not just the ones I specify - about 6 of the main ones. The Symantec guy suggested changing the count number from 6 to 5, meant the system starting blocking ALL file types !!!! So naturally I put it back and told him I was not happy he did this not knowing what he was doing.

I would appreciate your advise.

Regards,
Jay/UK

HI.

What is your Exchange version, and did you apply the latest SP for your Exchange server?
This is important for AV support.

The upgrade from 2.11 is recommended because it mainly fixes some bugs.

Simply run the SETUP.EXE of the new version - this will automaticaly upgrade the previous version.

For managing attachment blocking in NAVMSE, you can use my free BALMNE utility that is a GUI interface for those nasty registry settings:

Hi,

I believe we have the latest SP for Exchange - how do I check?

So you say I don't need to remove and do a fresh install? That would make it possible for me to do myself, I think. Probably requires 1 or 2 system reboots, so I'd have to do out of hours, of course.

Hi,

Service pack is 4.

No reboots? That would be novel, I've hardly done anything on NT which didn't require one!!

No reboots? I wouldn't count on it. I don't remember one, but I'd still suggest planning on needing one.

Hi,

I would be very surprised if any kind of software upgrade did not require an upgrade, so I would assume there was one.
