I have created a new service group in which I am going to put 3 servers (one is the parent server). I need to exclude a certain file extension from the weekly scheduled scan. I am confused because of the following:

When I go to the scheduled scan and then to client, when I look at the scan settings, I get the following:

Multiple computers are selected. Item selection is not available. Norton AntiVirus will scan all files and folders.

it will still let me choose options and put in an excluded extension, but the above statement has me confused. Does that mean that even though I have put an extension exclusion, it will not take effect?

Any help would be appretiated.

thanks,
Gary

The way I got around it (I was trying to exclude certain folders) was to create a 2nd parent server and put the the other servers I needed to exclude under that one.

By setting the scan parameters on the parent server, they were inherited by the client servers.

Does that help?

As I understand it (& how it works for us), "Multiple computers are selected. Item selection is not available. Norton AntiVirus will scan all files and folders" refers only to the excluding of specific files &/or folders, which understandably can't be propagated across multiple machines because they would commonly have differences. The exclusion by extension however is universally valid & propagated to the other servers or clients.

Alistair :)
