NAV CE SMS Client Install

I am having a problem with my SMS installation package for NT 4.0 Sp4 Nav CE 7.51 client installation package. When I push out my silent install to any machine that has a previous version of NAV (5.x), I get an C++ abnormal program termination error. If you check 'ok' installation continue's and seems to function correctly except you cannot click the NAV CE icon in the system tray without getting the error again. Using the start menu to pull up the program work fine. A reboot solves the problem. I would like to get rid of this problem so I can continue with my roll out. Anyone run into this before?

We ran across similar instances due to the NAV 5.x install however we were not rolling out a silent install. Depending on how the forver NAV was configured will vary your results.

The easiest way we found was to remove the old version first completely and reboot the machine, then perform a clean install. Part of the problems with the old version were from the Auto Protect being enabled while installing the new version and as well from the old Norton Scheduler. We performed a Web Based installation to over 150 clients and it all went fairly well with some minor issues that were easily resolved. If you have the option I recommend doing the Web install as it is very slick!

Also, what type of clients were you trying to deploy to? We primarily had Win95 / 98 so this may also factor in to your rollout.
