okay,
one more...the response previous was excellent...although my new skills cannot figure out how to write the value check...
i assigned a global variable to each page and assigned the value specific to the nav bar option...'donuts.html' gets assingned 'menu = sweets' and so on...there is a function that builds the nav bar and assigns each button an id, like 'sweets' button gets 'id=op1'.
this is what i have:
function mynavon(){
if (menu.value) op1.style.backgroundColor = "6699cc";
}
the error must be in the 'if (menu.value)' part, because the other one can stand alone and work. i also tried 'document.menu.value', no luck.
also, this eventually will work and work well, but no luck in netscape. i know ns is the weaker browser around here, (so it seems) but i can't just shun users or ask them to upgrade. convenience wins on the net. yes? okay, so what would you suggest to have the nav bar work in both? remember, the nav bar isn't written on each page, it's built from the external js page.
thanks again!
