Having read the helpful Anti-virus recom. thread, I have a question.

A site I work with is installing a Win2K server for a 20 Win9x workstation network. The nature of the organisation is that a decision on network wide AV may take a little time. So..
to cover the server immediately, are there any problems with installing a stand-alone version of Norton AV, suitable for Win2K? All the workstations have their own copies of NAV running.

Thanks in advance.

nope... just go ahead.. it runs just fine Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Er, can I suggest that maybe you'd be better covering the entry points (PCs, Firewall/Internet connection and Email server) rather than burdening the file server as performance and stability are important factors and if you have the entry points covered, it is unnecessary to burden the server in this way.

If the server IS one of these then by all means.

Just my 2 cents...

I take your point, however getting the users to upgrade their AV should be a lot easier than it is! At least this covers the data should anything get through.

It looks like all the external access will eventually go through this box due to cost considerations, but I hope a decision on a proper automatically updated network AV will have been taken by then.
